Our electoral work focuses on winning governing majorities in the states by making state legislative campaigns more effective and better-funded. Our policy work provides nonpartisan tools and resources that connect a diverse community of state lawmakers committed to improving lives for the people they serve. LOCATION: Remote, with no expected travel. COMPENSATION: $22 per hour worked.HOURS: All TSP Summer Interns are required to work core hours of 11am – 3pm EST, Monday – Friday.DEADLINE TO APPLY: May 17th, 2024
The Opportunity: Come join The States Project and help save our democracy! We are looking for exceptional people with a variety of academic backgrounds from colleges to join us as 2024 Summer Interns. Position Summary:The goal of the Internship Program is to provide a well-rounded experience for interns that provides an opportunity to see the impact of your work. We are committed to setting interns up for success by providing training opportunities where you develop a well-rounded set of hard & soft skills. As an intern, you will gain valuable educational experience in politics and policy at the state legislative level, and will be provided with opportunities to make connections with past cohorts and partners to support the development of your career. This summer, we are looking for an intern to gain experience with the following team:
Communications Team: This team crafts compelling narratives and amplifies stories that inform and inspire each of our audiences, through mediums such as email marketing and media pitching, and everything in between. This team creates framings for policy communications and hosts briefings and trainings.

What You Will Do

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
Maintain the accuracy of The States Project website
Assist with ongoing best practice message guides
Media monitoring for state legislative issues
Support the various verticals within the Communications team

What We Offer:Interns are paid $22 per hour worked, and accrue paid time off in accordance with our employee handbook and applicable state and local laws. We will work with you to help you obtain school credit where applicable. All internship opportunities will be remote. Interns are expected to commit up to 20 hours per week (generally during standard U.S. business hours) from June 13th, 2024 through August 30th, 2024.
What You Can Expect During the Recruitment and Hiring Process:Applications will be considered on a rolling basis. Selected applicants will be moved forward to phone screening. The next step is a virtual team interview, accompanied by a written exercise. Applications must be submitted by Wednesday, May 17th, 2024. To be considered a complete application, one must include a resume and have answered the five Pre-Application questions below. The latter must include why you are interested in working at The States Project. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
