Job Description

Element 84 is looking for a fast-learning and meticulous person to join our team as a Staff Accountant. They will have a sharp eye for detail and strong communication skills. They will have prior relevant experience to help perform daily AP/AR, invoice, payroll and other accounting support duties for our Accounting Manager. The ideal candidate will have experience within a small business and be comfortable with the flexibility required in that type of organization. This position is hybrid but mostly remote and would require working from our Alexandria, VA office one day per week.

Primary responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

Accounts payable expense coding and vendor management
Credit card receipt maintenance, expense coding, and reconciliation
Monthly client invoice preparation
Employee time entry review and timesheet reminders
Semi-monthly payroll processing
Prepare and distribute month-end budget reports
Prepare and post payroll journal entries
Maintain month-end accounting schedules & entries
Produce month-end financial report preparation
Responsible for the year-end 1099 process
Assistance with ad hoc accounting tasks and projects and other duties as assigned
Working from our Alexandria, VA office one day a week to process incoming financial mail and checks

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

3-6 years of relevant accounting experience in a similar role
Understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
Proficient in accounting software (such as QuickBooks)
Proficient in the accounts payable process
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
Willingness to learn new software
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Proactive, problem-solving, and resourceful
Strong attention to detail
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business administration or relevant work experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree

Preferred Qualifications

Working knowledge of QuickBooks Accountant Desktop Edition
Basic knowledge of Google Suite including Gmail, Google Sheets and Google Drive
Experience with payroll processing with Paychex
Experience with project-based accounting
Experience with government contracting and Federal Travel Regulations
