Data Engineer IV

Role Purpose:

The role would drive a strong vision for how data engineering can proactively create a positive impact on the business. As a data engineering Senior Manager, the role will provide key technical expertise in overseeing Jumio’s current state of data ecosystem and deliver the immediate solutioning of the existing set of problem statements wrt data contracts, data movement, curation, deploy and management, while strategically frame out the data product build & operations standards. It would also require to drive adoption within the team towards best industry practices of ingress/egress frameworks, CICD, and devops standards.

The role empowers one to create & lead a strong team of data engineers who build data pipelines into various source systems, rest data on the Jumio DWH, and enable exploration and access for analytics, and reporting purposes.

Role Value: As a member of the data engineering team, this role will mature to help lead the development of very large and complex data products and it’s native cloud migration strategies, directly impacting the implementation of Jumio’s data products around topics like revenue management, billing, churn, automation and customer success. The role will require the candidate to work closely with process owners, product owners and business users. It will be a fully remote ‘work from home’ model dealing with a hybrid cloud environment with in-house and 3rd party data sources and remote systems.

Example Role Responsibilities :

Analyze the 5Vs of data inflow through our sources and identify growth/volume trends
Analyze the quality of the data pipe and feed files landing into our DWH
Analyze the source system and review the data contracts across different APIs, eliminate bad/unclean data
Review the existing stored procs. take stock of the redundancies and provide optimized solutions.
Reduce and eliminate all the manual ways of working on preparing data extracts, and data requests and move towards rendering data through one single curated data layer
Lay out the policies of how to best leverage the dev/test and prod instance
Analyse and partner with DQ specialists in framing out DQ rules
Automate deployment process through CICD best practices, minimizing bugs/errors and maximizing operational efficiency

Relevant Experience and Qualifications :

8 – 12 years of experience working in core data engineering projects
6+ years experience in handling large datasets, implementing coding standards troubleshooting and building data processing framework
6+ years of experience in SQL optimization and performance tuning, and development experience in programming languages like Python, PySpark, Scala etc.)
6+ work exp. across multiple ETL tools, across big data platforms (Oozie,HDFS, Spark, Hive, etc) and ANSI SQL Standard databases (Teradata, SQL Server)
Exposure working with Jenkins, Unix shell scripting
4+ years in cloud data engineering experience in at least one cloud (Azure, AWS, GCP)
Experience scaling up, mentoring and managing a team of data engineers
Experience with data modeling, data warehousing, and building high-volume ETL/ELT pipelines
BSc/Btech computer science or engineering or any other relevant technical fields

Great to have Experience and Qualifications

Experience with Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks and Azure Machine learning tools
Understanding of Fintech and online identity verification business and products
Proven ability to lead others without direct authority in a matrixed environment
Proven ability with strong verbal and written communication skills effectively demonstrated to establish confidence/influence C-suite leadership
Ability to understand and translate business requirements into data and technical requirements
